Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

Cells of the body interact with one another via both chemical and electrical signaling but the majority of electrode arrays focus on monitoring only on the electrical component of this signaling. Here at LLNL we are now integrating biosensors onto our multielectrode arrays to examine the chemical dynamics of cellular signaling. Integration of many biosensors onto a single platform provides unparalleled information about the chemical dynamics of living tissue. The group is developing techniques to selectively modify electrodes on the group's multielectrode platforms to create arrays of biosensors and the specialized electronics electrochemical detection methods necessary for use of a biosensor array.
